Green Oxford Fabric Cover for Large Smokehouse
Description
Practical protection between smoking sessions
This green Oxford fabric cover is intended for a large smokehouse of the corresponding format. It provides a tidy way to store the metal body, limiting contact with dust, moisture and everyday dirt while helping shield the surface from light scratches during transport. The cover is a useful accessory for anyone who keeps a smokehouse at a country house, in a garage or utility room, or takes it along for outdoor cooking and would rather not wrap the equipment in plastic or look for a suitable box before every trip.
The soft cover follows the bulky rectangular shape of the smokehouse and closes with a zipper. Its large upper section opens widely, making it easier to place the body inside and remove it before cooking. Two long webbing handles provide secure handholds for carrying the packed equipment over a short distance. They can also be held by two people when the weight of the smokehouse makes that the more sensible option. With no rigid frame to take up extra space, the empty cover can be folded compactly when it is not in use.
Useful construction details
- Oxford fabric. The material has water-repellent properties, is easy to wipe clean and dries quickly after damp cleaning. It helps with occasional splashes and short exposure to moisture while moving the smokehouse, but it should not be treated as a waterproof outdoor enclosure or left continuously in the rain.
- Zippered upper opening. The zipper keeps the cover closed around the equipment while allowing straightforward access without complicated ties or loose cords.
- Two carrying handles. Webbing straps attached to the body of the cover create convenient grips for moving the packed smokehouse.
- Green finish. The restrained, practical colour suits outdoor equipment and utility items stored in a garage, shed, pantry or country home.
Preparing the smokehouse for storage
Allow the smokehouse to cool completely before placing it inside. Remove grease and soot residue, wipe the surfaces and make sure the body is thoroughly dry. A hot or damp smokehouse should never be enclosed immediately: heat may damage the fabric or zipper, while trapped moisture is undesirable around stored metal equipment. The cover itself should also be dry before it is folded or used. Ordinary marks can be removed with a damp sponge, a microfibre cloth or another soft wipe. If more thorough cleaning is required, use a low temperature and a mild cleaning product, then allow the cover to dry naturally.
This version is made for a large smokehouse, but size labels are not standard across every manufacturer. The word “large” on another model therefore does not by itself establish an exact fit. If the smokehouse comes from a different range or has a projecting chimney, thermometer, unusual handles or a modified lid, compare its complete external shape and measurements with the cover before choosing. Those external parts must fit inside without being forced against the zipper or seams.
The cover is intended for storing and moving equipment only after it has cooled; it must be removed completely before the smokehouse is heated or used. It supplements sensible storage rather than replacing a dry, ventilated location. Used this way, it helps keep both the smokehouse and the surrounding storage area neater, reduces the amount of dust to clean before the next session and makes packing for a trip more organised.
