Stands and Wind Protection

When cooking over an open fire, stands provide stable placement for equipment or cookware, while wind protection reduces the direct effect of gusts on the heated area. These accessories perform different functions: a stand determines support and working position, whereas a screen shelters the fire or coals from the wind. They may be used separately or together when the cooking setup permits.

For a stand, consider its intended use, installation method, support shape, permitted load, and fit with the dimensions of the equipment. Its base should suit the chosen surface and hold the firebox or cookware in a practical working position. For a wind screen, assess the size and shape of the heated area, the height and placement of the screen, access to fuel, and the ability to manage airflow.

Ease of assembly, transport, storage, and cleaning also affects selection. The design should reflect whether the accessory will remain in a permanent cooking area or be carried as part of a mobile outdoor setup.
