Stainless Steel Lid for a 40 cm Disc Pan
Description
For the covered stage of open-fire cooking
This separate lid is designed for a disc pan with a nominal diameter of 40 cm. After ingredients have been browned in the open pan, the lid allows cooking to continue in a covered space: hot steam remains inside, moisture escapes more slowly, and the food can simmer or finish in the same pan. In an outdoor cooking area, the covered surface also helps keep ash, leaves, and other stray particles away from the dish.
Lid construction
The body is made of stainless steel and has a round, domed profile. Its raised centre leaves clearance above the contents of the pan. A metal ring is attached at the top for lifting the lid without adding a long side handle that projects beyond the cookware.

What changes when the pan is covered
When correctly seated, the lid creates a more enclosed cooking space above the food. It keeps more hot steam inside and reduces moisture loss compared with using a completely uncovered pan. This mode is suitable for simmering, softening ingredients, and completing a dish after its surface has been browned. The lid does not replace heat control: fire intensity still needs to suit the recipe and the amount of food in the pan.
The centrally positioned ring allows the lid to be lifted vertically and avoids a projecting handle beside the pan. Both the stainless steel body and the ring become hot during use. A dry heat-resistant mitt or pot holder should be used for lifting, and the lid should be opened with the escaping steam directed away from the hands and face.
Checking the seating edge
The 40 cm designation identifies the nominal disc-pan size for which this model is intended. Fit depends not only on the stated diameter but also on the actual edge measurement, rim profile, and point on which the lid rests. These details can vary between cookware designs, so a matching 40 cm label alone does not confirm that the lid will seat correctly on every pan. A suitable lid should rest securely and cover the cooking surface without sliding out of position.
Cleaning the stainless steel
Once cool, the surface can be cleaned with soapy water and a soft sponge or cloth. Stiff brushes and coarse abrasives should be avoided because they may leave visible scratches on the metal. Dry the lid thoroughly after cleaning, including the area around the ring attachment. It should be stored dry and kept apart from objects that could scrape or damage the surface.
