Description

This lid is intended for a disc pan with a nominal diameter of 40 cm. It lets the cook move from open frying to covered cooking without transferring the ingredients to another vessel. Once the pan is covered, heated air and steam remain around the food for longer, making the lid useful for continued heating or braising. Outdoors, the closed surface also shields the contents from leaves, dust and other particles that might otherwise fall into the pan from above.

Construction and specifications

The round lid is made from 1–1.2 mm cold-rolled steel. A metal ring is fixed at the centre and provides a grip when the lid needs to be raised for stirring, checking the food or releasing excess steam. Its straightforward all-metal construction suits the format of a disc pan and does not rely on a separate opening mechanism.

  • Purpose: lid for a disc pan.
  • Nominal diameter: 40 cm.
  • Material: cold-rolled steel.
  • Steel thickness: 1–1.2 mm.
  • Handle: central metal ring.

Cooking with the pan open or covered

An uncovered pan is appropriate when the ingredients need to brown and excess moisture must escape freely. The lid can be fitted when more heat and steam need to remain above the food. It may be removed briefly for stirring or adjusting the amount of moisture, then returned to the pan. In this way, one accessory helps change the cooking environment without moving the food into another container.

The heat of a campfire varies as flames move, coals settle and wind conditions change. A covered pan loses heated air more slowly during a short reduction in heat. The lid does not replace careful fire control, but it adds another practical adjustment: leave the pan open to release moisture or cover it for continued heating.

Checking the fit

This model is designed for a pan marked with a 40 cm diameter. The same nominal figure does not always mean the same fit because pans from different ranges may have different rim shapes, upper-edge profiles and actual outside measurements. A suitable lid rests level on the edge, does not drop inside the pan and does not shift when touched carefully. When matching it to cookware from another maker, the seating area should therefore be compared as well as the stated diameter.

Handling and care

The steel surface and ring heat up together with the pan, so a heat-resistant glove or secure pot holder is required when lifting the hot lid. It should be tilted away from the body as it is raised so that escaping steam is directed away from the hands and face. Once removed, the lid belongs on a stable, non-combustible surface where it cannot touch fabric, plastic or dry vegetation.

After the lid has cooled completely, food residue should be removed and the metal wiped thoroughly dry. A soft sponge, cloth or paper towel is suitable for cleaning; a stiff metal brush may scratch the surface. Store the lid in a dry place without water droplets left on the steel. A very thin film of food-grade vegetable oil may be applied to the clean, dry surface, particularly before a long period of storage.
