Description

This small chimney starter is intended to prepare lump charcoal and charcoal briquettes before they are transferred to a brazier or charcoal grill. The fuel sits in a separate vertical chamber above an internal grate, while paper, dry wood chips, or another suitable dry lighting material is placed underneath. Air enters through the lower part of the body and travels upward through the load, supporting the spread of combustion without continuous fanning. Preparation typically takes about 15–20 minutes, although the actual time varies with the type, size, and moisture content of the fuel, as well as wind and ambient temperature.

Compact steel construction

The body is made from 1 mm thick steel. It measures 20 cm high and 17.5 cm in diameter, making this format suitable for preparing a modest separate batch of fuel while taking up less room among barbecue accessories. The open top is used for loading and lets the user monitor the charcoal. An internal grate separates the fuel from the paper or dry kindling used to start the fire. A natural wood handle is mounted on the side and provides the gripping point when the starter is moved or the prepared coals are poured into the firebox.

  • Purpose: preparing charcoal for a brazier or charcoal grill.
  • Suitable fuel: lump charcoal and charcoal briquettes.
  • Body material: steel with a thickness of 1 mm.
  • Size: 20 cm high and 17.5 cm in diameter.
  • Construction: open chamber, internal grate, and side-mounted wooden handle.

Using the starter

Place the starter upright on a stable, non-combustible surface. Load charcoal or briquettes through the top and onto the grate without packing the chamber too tightly. Put paper or dry wood chips below the grate and ignite them. As the material catches fire, airflow through the lower section supports combustion throughout the load. The coals are ready for transfer when they glow consistently and develop a pale ash layer. Carefully pour them into the grill firebox, then arrange the fuel to suit the required heat layout.

The starter can also prepare a second batch away from a grill that is already in use. This avoids placing cold fuel directly onto an established bed of hot coals. The product is a chamber for lighting fuel; it is not a cooking vessel or a substitute for a brazier or grill firebox.

Handling and care

The steel body, internal grate, and charcoal become extremely hot during operation. The wooden handle does not remove the need for heat-resistant gloves, and no metal component should be touched while the starter is hot. Keep people and combustible objects away from the direction in which the coals will be poured. After use, leave the starter on a non-combustible surface until it has cooled naturally and completely. Remove ash and loose residue from the cold body and grate with a dry, stiff-bristled brush. Store the product in a dry place to limit prolonged exposure of the steel to moisture.
