Description

This barbecue grate turns a brazier into an open cooking surface for preparing meat, fish, sausages, and vegetables directly over the coals. The selected version is intended for a 6-skewer brazier and is useful whenever food is easier to arrange across one level than to thread onto separate skewers. Its open design keeps every portion accessible, so pieces can be turned at the right moment, moved between hotter and cooler areas, and removed individually as they become ready.

Construction and cooking surface

The grate is made of stainless steel. A rectangular perimeter frame supports a row of parallel rods, creating a flat, open surface without a hinged clamping section. The grate is 30 cm wide, each rod has a diameter of 4 mm, and the spacing between adjacent rods is 1.5 cm. This arrangement allows heat from the coals to reach the food while providing several support points beneath each portion.

  • 6-skewer format. The grate is designed for a correspondingly sized brazier and allows it to be used as an open barbecue station.
  • 30 cm width. Compare this measurement with the brazier width and the position of its supporting edges so that the frame can rest steadily on top.
  • 4 mm rods. Food sits on separate parallel supports rather than on a solid metal plate.
  • 1.5 cm spacing. Cut food so that the supported part of each piece is wider than the gap. Very small ingredients are better prepared in suitable cookware or with a separate accessory.

Checking the fit before cooking

The stated skewer capacity is useful for identifying the version, but the actual geometry of the brazier also matters. Compare the 30 cm grate width with the outer width of the firebox, measure the available length of the supporting area, and check whether raised sides, skewer slots, or decorative details prevent the frame from sitting level. The grate should rest securely on the body instead of dropping inside or balancing on a single narrow edge. Taking these measurements is particularly important with handmade braziers and models that have an unusual wall profile.

Cooking over charcoal

Wait for a stable bed of heat without active flames before placing food on the grate. Arrange pieces in a single layer and leave enough room to turn them. Dense or larger portions can be positioned over the hotter charcoal, while foods that need gentler heat can be moved closer to an edge. Because the surface is open, each piece can be repositioned as cooking progresses. The metal rods and frame heat up together with the brazier, so they should be handled only with suitable heat-resistant tools.

Cleaning and storage

Allow the grate to cool completely, remove food residue, and clean the rods on both sides. Warm water, standard dishwashing liquid, and a sponge or brush that does not damage the surface are suitable for routine care. Wipe the grate dry after washing and keep it in a clean, dry place. Prompt cleaning prevents cooked-on residue from building up in the spaces between the rods and leaves the working surface ready for the next outdoor meal.
