Description

An open grate for cooking over charcoal

The 30×50 cm format turns the top of a suitable brazier into an open barbecue surface. Its parallel bars can hold individual cuts of meat, prepared fish, seafood, or vegetables cut into substantial pieces. Food does not have to be threaded onto skewers or clamped between two panels: each portion can be turned and removed separately.

The grate is made of stainless steel and has a flat rectangular shape. The bars are joined by an outer frame; this model has no second clamping panel and no long handle. The construction rests directly on the supporting edges of a firebox. The brazier is a separate item and is not included with the grate.

Size and construction

  • Cooking format — 30×50 cm. Its length corresponds to the 8-skewer brazier format for which this version is intended.
  • Bar diameter — 4 mm. The parallel bars create one open cooking plane.
  • Gap between bars — 1.5 cm. The open spaces allow heat and smoke from the charcoal to pass through.
  • Material — stainless steel. The cooking bars and the frame around them use this material.
  • No upper panel. Portions are turned using barbecue tongs or a suitable spatula.

Checking the fit on a brazier

Before installation, measure the distance between the opposite supporting edges of the firebox and the usable length of its top opening. The 30×50 cm frame must rest securely on the sides without dropping inside or relying on an overly narrow ledge. The 8-skewer designation helps identify the intended format, but it does not replace measurement: brazier bodies can differ in width, rim profile, and the size of the areas available to support the frame.

Put the grate in position before the firebox becomes hot. The metal frame and bars heat up during cooking, so use tongs or a spatula for food and heat-resistant gloves for tasks close to the surface. Make sure the grate remains securely supported while portions are being turned.

Arranging food and caring for the grate

Take the 1.5 cm gap into account when preparing ingredients, as small pieces can pass between the bars. Cut meat and fish into portions that sit across several bars, and cut vegetables into substantial slices. Leave open areas between portions so each item is easier to lift with a utensil and turn without shifting neighboring food.

Wash and dry the grate before its first use. After cooking, allow the metal to cool naturally, remove food residue, clean the surface, and dry it completely again. Store the clean grate in a dry place. The construction does not need to be disassembled for this care routine.
