Cold-Rolled Steel Lid for 60 cm Disc Pan
Description
This lid is intended for a disc pan with a nominal diameter of 60 cm used for cooking over an open fire. After the initial frying stage, the pan can be covered for simmering, gentler heating, or a short covered rest before the food is served. Its solid steel surface also shields the contents from leaves, grass, and small debris around an outdoor cooking area.
Construction and specifications
- Nominal diameter — 60 cm.
- Material — cold-rolled steel.
- Metal thickness — 1–1.2 mm.
- Handle — a fixed metal ring positioned in the central area.
The lid has a round, all-metal construction with no transparent insert. The ring provides a separate gripping point and remains within the outer outline when folded down. The set contains one lid only; the pan, carrying case, and other accessories are separate items.
Covered cooking
Adding the lid expands the cooking methods available with a disc pan. After intensive frying, meat, vegetables, pilaf, stew, and similar dishes can continue cooking in the covered pan. The lid reduces the unrestricted exchange of hot air above the food and keeps the dish covered between the end of cooking and serving. Because the surface is opaque, the food must be checked by lifting the lid rather than viewed through it.
Checking the fit
The 60 cm designation is a nominal diameter, but the actual fit depends on more than this number. Before use, compare the outside measurement of the pan, the shape and width of its rim, the depth of the bowl, and the positions of handles or other projecting parts. A correctly fitting lid should rest steadily on the supporting edge without dropping into the pan or pressing against its fittings. An equal nominal diameter does not by itself establish compatibility with cookware from another series or manufacturer.
Handling and care
The steel lid and its metal ring heat up together with the pan. Use a heat-resistant glove or a substantial pot holder when gripping the ring. When opening the pan, raise the far edge first so that escaping steam travels away from the hands and face. Place the removed hot lid on a stable, non-combustible surface where it cannot slide or tip.
Once the lid has cooled, remove food and grease residue and wipe the metal completely dry. Cold-rolled steel should not be left wet or stored in a damp location, because prolonged exposure to moisture can lead to corrosion. Do not place heavy objects on the broad lid surface: a changed profile may prevent it from resting evenly on the rim of the pan.
